Another night spent on Skype, discussing the Federal Canadian election with my sister… I wish I was in Montreal to enjoy the “after-show” live, but I guess scouring the web for information will do for now. Canadians have elected a maple syrup flavored George W. Bush (sweeter than the original) and it’s hard to predict what will happen next. Overall Stephen Harper is in a very good position: strong economy, support from the US, very low unemployment rate. Harper simply has to lay low and avoid some enormous gaffe when he will re-open the discussion on gay mariage in Canada, and he will be sure to be re-elected.
The thing with this election is that Canadian voted for a change not for an ideology. They voted againts the Liberal Party not against Paul Martin who did a great job as a Finance minister. The voters were duped into thinking that there were big diffrences between the Liberals and the Tories when in fact voting for a change would have met voting for the Neo Democratic Party. Status-quo it is.
Well I have to agree. He got it a few weeks ago and I must say that this things has a lots of trick up its sleeves! The T43 is far from being cool looking like a Powerbook for example. But it’s small robust titanium frame gives it a classy look. This laptop comes with unique (not for long I assume) software and hardware features, where the emphasis is put on securing your data starting with the fingerprint reader. According to my Hubby the biometric security was super easy to install.
You may notice that some reviews of this laptop are pretty average but my guess is that they only looked at it superficially and did not use it for demanding task such as software development or editing large library of jpeg. This feature rich laptop is only 2 kg. The resolution is a 1,400 x 1,050 SXGA on a 14′1 screen , you can see between 10 and 15 percent more on a SXGA, meaning more windows and applications can be opened at the same time. There are 2 customs software bundles, one called ThinkVantage and the other Rescue and Recovery which contains several utilities to secure the laptop in case of loss or corruption. One think I was suprise to see, was a small light at the top of the screen , this light illuminates the keyboard which is perfect for business travel. I know, its sound simple but you have to see it to understand; That is the thing about this laptop, all kinds of simplistic add-ons that really makes a difference on a laptop of this caliber. Now my job is to figure out a way for it to recognize my finger print as well, right? That should be fun
Since my arrival in Zurich I became the groupie of the Adliswil basketball team that my Hubby is playing for. He was amazing. Today was my first time seeing them against the No1 team in Zurich and they won !! The score: 102 90. The team is a cool bunch and the coach is that intense, John McEnroe-like, screaming kinda guy that does not take defeat as an answer. My hands were dark red and burning after excessive clapping but it was a lot of fun! Beside, isn’t my ‘duty’ as an Adliswil groupie
After the game we went to the Restaurant of the Ibis Hotel near the gym for a few drinks and celebration. Go Adliswil!Go!
I live in Zurich but to be more precise, I live in Adliswil. The Canton of Zürich is divided into 12 districts. First you have Zürich which comprises the city of Zürich, Affoltern, Andelfingen, Bülach, Dielsdorf, Dietikon, Hinwil, Horgen, Meilen, Pfäffikon, Uster and Winterthur. So, I am in the district of Zurich which is subdivided into 171 municipalities and the municipality I live in is called Adliswil.

Ingo and I were invited by Thomas and Cherez to a restaurant called Blu. The attached picture shows the exact table we where on this morning (the one in the middle of the picture). Because this restaurant in not located in the heart of the city, the crowd was small and despite its modern/trendy look, everybody was dress casually allowing for a relaxed athmosphere. Thanks Thomas and Cherez for the treat. They are absolutely adorable.

That would be my little sister Christel. We are quite the chatty type when we are together, so now that I am in Zurich , I have setup the whole family , back in Montreal, on Skype. Our big topic now is the Federal election in Canada. My sister and I just love watching those candidate beg for our votes
Other then that she seems to be doing more then okay, managing school and work at the same time. I know she will do well. Keep it up Christel
I arrived yesterday.
I brought so much luggage that I am afraid to unpack…Everything is on the bedroom floor , my hubby is kind enough not get on my case, just yet. I guess once my jet lag wears off I will need to clean up this mess…The weather here is cloudy here. One question I have is, where is the snow and why can I see green grass !?
And I think so too. Alfresco is an open-source version of SharePoint. SharePoint being that CRM/Intranet web application that Microsoft has been pushing for a while, without success in my opinion. So, Alfresco provides solutions through modules (yes like SharePoint) and it seems to deliver a more polished product then Byline. Alfresco seems to be headed in the right direction, with smart developer (Documentum co-founder among others), customer support, and above average product with better performance at a lower cost. Try the demo if you have a chance.
